Krishna discusses counter-terrorism with Myanmar leaders

Nay Pyi Taw (Myanmar), Dec 11 (PTI) India and Myanmar
Friday discussed steps to strengthen cooperation in
counter-terrorism and curbing transnational crimes as External
Affairs Minister S M Krishna held wide-ranging talks on issues
of mutual interest with the leadership here.

Krishna discussed bilateral issues with his Myanmarese
counterpart U Nyan Win. He later called on Prime Minister Gen
Thein Sein during which the two leaders exchanged views on
sharing intelligence.
It is understood that the Myanmarese leadership
informed Krishna about the anti-insurgency operations they had
launched against militants and their bases in this country.
India has been insisting that insurgents, particularly
those from the northeastern regions, have set up bases in some
border areas of Myanmar.
There have been reports that ULFA leader Paresh Barua has
been hiding in the Kachin area along the Myanmar-China border.
Krishna, who wound up his two-day visit to Myanmar, also
discussed with the leaders here stepping up of cooperation in
the areas like energy, trade and improving connectivity
