NUMBER OF S. KOREAN TOURIST ARRIVALS IN BALI DECLINES
Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia, December 13 (ANTARA) - The number of South Korean tourist arrivals in Bali declined 6,793 people or 6.11 percent to 104,448 people in the January-October period in 2009, from 111.241 in the same period last year.
All of them had arrived through Bandara Ngurah Rai International airport, Ida Komang Wisnu, head of the Bali provincial Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), said here on Saturday.
South Korea ranked fifth after Australia, Japan, China and Malaysia, on the list of 10 countries contributing the most to Bali's tourist dollar earnings, he said.
The east Asian country accounted for 5.27 percent of the total number of foreign tourists visiting Bali (1,982,274) in January-October 2009.
The number of foreign tourist arrivals in Bali went up 14.22 percent in the January-October 2009 period, from 1,735,415 in the same period of last year.
Bali Province and South Korea's Cheju Province have established cooperation in the tourism, cultural and agriculture sectors.
Both province's arts and cultural missions had visited each other so far. The cooperation was expected to help increase the number of South Korean tourists visiting Bali, he said.
Of the top ten countries, six showed significant increases, namely Malaysia (9.14 percent), China (65.29 percent), Australia (35.46 percent), France (51.07 percent), Britain (12.36 percent) and the Netherlands (22.91 percent), according to Ida Komang Wisnu.
Meanwhile, the remaining four countries showed decreases in numbers of people visiting Bali, namely South Korea (6.11 percent), Japan (9.12 percent), Taiwan (9.25 percent) and Germany (7.20 percent). ***
