LG cell phones named year's top mobile products by U.S. magazine

SEOUL, Dec. 14 (Yonhap) -- A U.S. industry journal has named two cell phones made
by South Korea's LG Electronics Inc. as the best products of the year in the
mobile handset category, according to the publication Monday.
The November issue of U.S. Consumer Reports said that its experts ranked the
mobile phone models by LG, the world's third-largest mobile handset maker, as the
top products among all cell phones provided by America's two biggest mobile
carriers.
LG's "enV touch" received 74 points, the highest score among the 17 models tested
by experts from Consumer Reports, claiming the title of best model carried by
Verizon Wireless, which has the largest number of cell phone subscribers in the
U.S.
The South Korean company's "Xenon," which scored 69 points, was named top cell
phone on the list of models offered by AT&T, the second largest mobile carrier in
th U.S.
Consumer Reports, published monthly by the Consumers Union since 1936, releases
reviews of consumer electronics and automobiles based on in-house testing by
thousands of experts.
The November issue includes the best of consumers report on products in 398
categories. The cell phone category selected the top 17 models from five mobile
carriers.
Among the top five products from Verizon Wireless, four models were made by LG
Electronics, according to the publication.
Both the "enV touch" and "Xenon" feature QWERTY keypads, the keyboard most widely
used in personal computers. LG Electronics sold more than 14 million such units
this year in the U.S. market, according to the company.
"The models selected by the report are flagship products that have led in the
growing popularity of LG cell phones," said an official at LG Electronics. "The
result is expected to push up sales at the end of the year as the magazine's
reviews are highly trusted by consumers."
Mobile handsets by South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co., the world's
second-biggest mobile handset maker, were also named among the top models offered
by T-Mobile and Sprint Nextel, the No.3 mobile carrier in the U.S.
