High alert after 'fidayeen' enter Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata
New Delhi, Dec 14 (PTI) Bhaba Atomic Research Centre,
Bombay Stock Exchange in Mumbai and American Consulate in
the state of Kolkata are high on the radar of Taliban-trained
terrorists who have sneaked into the cities to attack vital
installations.
A top official of the Indian government said
Taliban-trained 'fidayeen' (suicide squad) have entered the
country to carry out attacks at specific installations like
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters in Nagpur city,
Kolkata Port and some defence establishments.
According to intelligence input, the World Cup Hockey,
scheduled to be held in Delhi in February, and some civilian
targets in the western Indian state of Gujarat could also be
targeted by these terrorists who have entered the country with
the help of Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The Indian Home Ministry has already alerted governments
of the states of Maharashtra, West Bengal, Gujarat and the
Delhi Police to take necessary measures to beef up security in
the potential targets and intensify patrolling, specially in
airports, railway stations, bus terminus and hotels, the
official said.
Intelligence input also suggested that the terrorists are
"Pashtoon-looking".
The official said a few days before the terrorists'
entry, some "facilitator" had visited Mumbai to do a recce and
to provide information which are the possible hotels and guest
houses where the terrorists could stay. PTI ACB
