Iran drawn with U.S. in basketball World Championship

ISTANBUL, Dec. 15 (MNA) -- Iran has been drawn in Group B of next summer’s FIBA World Championship, in a ceremony held in Istanbul on Tuesday.


Iran is playing against the U.S., which won the gold medal of the 2008 Olympic Games, Croatia, Brazil, Slovenia, and Tunisia.

A total of 24 teams divided into 4 groups of 6 teams, with each team playing the other five teams in their respective groups. Following the group stage, the top placed four teams from each group (16 teams) go on to the Eighth Finals, at which point the competition continues through to the Finals in a standard knock-out format.


The Championship will be played in Turkey, in the cities of Ankara, Kayseri, Istanbul and Izmir from August 28 to September 12, 2010.
