YUDHOYONO MEETS GERMAN PRESIDENT
Berlin, Dec 15 (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono met German President Horst Kohler at the Schloss Bellevue Presidential Palace here on Tuesday.
Accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, the Indonesian president was greeted in a state ceremony upon arrival at the presidential palace.
Yudhoyono was during the one-hour meeting accompanied by Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, Industry Minister MS Hidayat and Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa.
During his two-day visit in Germany, Yudhoyono is also scheduled to hold talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The two leaders are expected to exchange views on a number of issues, including relations between the two countries and the ongoing UN climate change talks in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Yudhoyono is in Germany on the third leg of his four-European nation tour. He visited Belgium and France on Monday.
Yudhoyono's visit to Germany was considered of great significance because no exchange of the two countries' top leaders had happened since the then German Chancellor, Gerhard Schroder, visited Indonesia in 2003.
Indonesia and Germany, both members of the G-20, are considered to have performed well economically in 2009, especially in the face of the global financial crisis. They are also regarded as doing relatively well in regional and global terms.
From Germany he will fly to Copenhagen for the UN climate change talks on Thursday and Friday.***
