N. Korea's security minister visits China: KCNA

By Tony Chang
SEOUL, Dec. 15 (Yonhap) -- North Korea's security minister travelled to China
Tuesday, the North's media reported, in the first such trip by the country's
security minister in over a decade.

A delegation led by Ju Sang-song, head of the North's Ministry of People's
Security, left Pyongyang for China by air, the North's Korean Central News Agency
said in a brief dispatch.
The report did not explain details of the trip, such as the purpose and the
length of the visit, or who Ju will meet in China.
The visit by Ju, who has a capacity similar to that of police commissioners in
other countries, comes as a surprise as the trip reportedly marks the first visit
by a North Korean security minister to China since the incoming of the Kim
Jong-il regime in 1998.
Among his most recent overseas visits, Ju travelled to Russia in June 2005 and
forged an agreement with authorities there to cooperate in countering organized
crime.
