Samsung, Yota, launch WiMax service in Nicaragua

SEOUL, Dec. 16 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. said Wednesday
that it will launch its next generation mobile Internet service with its Russian
partner in Nicaragua starting in May as part of efforts to expand the service
worldwide.

Samsung, which supplies WiMax equipment, began a test service with Yota on
Tuesday in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, the company said.
The commercial service will start in four major cities in the Central American
country next year.
WiMax, which stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is an
advanced telecommunications technology that allows remote access to the Internet
at broadband-like speed.
