BOEDIONO ASKS FOR TALKS ON HEARING`S ``ECHNICALITIES``
Jakarta, Dec 16 (ANTARA) - Vice President Boediono is ready to explain as clearly as possible the government's decision to bail out troubled Bank Century last year to the House Inquiry Committee, his spokesman said.
Boediono, however, also proposes that a discussion first be held on the "technicalities" of the Committee session where he would appear in order to avoid degrading "state symbols", his spokesman, Yopie Hidayat, told newsmen here on Wednesday.
"The fact is Vice President Boediono has all along been ready to explain as clearly and extensively as possible the bailout decision to the committee," he said.
Yopie said Boediono was quite open and willing to give explanations regarding the Bank Century case. He said, to Boediono, giving the explanations would be a normal and common political process but he also wanted an assurance of the observance of "political etiquette."
"It does not mean he wishes to avoid the hearing. But he wants the technical issues of ethics or protocol assured first as he is now the vice president and thus also a state symbol," Yopie said.
Yopie said before the hearing could take place, an understanding needed to be reached first on whether Boediono had to come to the House of Representatives or the other way round. Therefore, talks on these technicalities needed to be held first.
Emphasizing the need for talks on the procedural matter, Yopie called to mind that even when the vice president was to attend a wedding reception, some prior coordination on procedural or protocol matters was necessary.
"There are protocol, political norms, state etiquette and others that need to be considered. What is important is to avoid degrading state symbols," he said.
Yopie said state symbols must be respected, adding that so far Boediono had not received any invitation from the House Inquiry Committee.
He said in essence, Boediono as vice president did not want state etiquette to be violated. "Do not think it is a way to avoid it. He is willing to give an explanation," he said.
The committee was earlier reported to be planned to summon Boediono in his capacity as Bank Indonesia or central bank governor at the time the decision to bail out Bank Century was made, namely December 22, 2008.***
