QATAR-LNG 2

Qatar indicated that it has spare LNG production in 2009
and 2010 and had sent feelers for a meeting with Deora to
"act" upon the request for additional LNG that India made
during Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Doha in
November last year.

RasGas of Qatar currently sells 5 million tonnes a year
of LNG to Petronet LNG under a 25-year contract. An additional
2.5 million tonnes would be supplied under the same contract
by the end of this year, they said.
Since gas supplies for the 2,150 MW-Dabhol power plant
has already been tied up with Reliance Industries' eastern
offshore KG-D6 fields, the LNG to be imported at Dabhol can be
sold to fuel-starved industries in Maharashtra and Gujarat in
west India, sources added.
Last year RasGas supplied 1.2 million tonnes additional
LNG to meet the fuel needs of Dabhol power plant. This year,
it supplied few cargoes for the power project this year and is
willing to give more its principal consumers in US and Europe
face demand contraction.
Sources said RasGas would begin loading the first cargo
of the tranche-II quantity of 2.5 million tons on December 27
and the same is likely to arrive at Dahej in second week of
January.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his maiden visit to
Qatar in November last year pitched for importing 2.5 million
tonnes a year of additional LNG on long-term basis to meet the
growing energy needs. MORE PTI ANZ
