PAR-RUSSIA 3 LAST

Krishna pointed out that during Singh's visit to Russia,
the two sides signed three agreements on defence cooperation.
One of these is an extension of bilateral military and
technical cooperation for ten years beyond 2010.

The agreement would facilitate access for our defence
forces and defence industry to latest Russian equipment and
technology, including for indigenous production.
It provides the framework for acquisition, licensed
production, upgrades and modernisation of defence equipment as
well as the development of new and advanced weapon systems.
Another agreement signed relates to after-sales support
for the Russian arms and military equipment supplied to India.
This pact would facilitate timely and adequate supply of
spares and services for integrated maintenance of Russian-made
military equipment supplied to India.
Queried whether China was discussed during Singh's
meetings with Russian leadership, Krishna said the issue came
up in the larger context of matters related to the region.
The External Affairs Minister said India attaches
importance to its relations with China and efforts are
underway to tackle "certain boundary issues" through the
mechanism of Special Representatives.
"We are trying to find an amicable solution to the
(boundary) problem," he said noting that perceptions between
India and China differ as the border is undemarcated. PTI ASI
