GARUDA HELPS TURTLE CONSERVATION IN INDONESIA'S CITY OF GILI TRAWANGAN

Jakarta, Dec 17 (ANTARA) - National flag-carrier PT Garuda Indonesia provided Rp 700 million for a turtle breeding project in Gili Trawangan, West Nusa Tenggara province, Indonesia.

The presentation of the assistance was marked with the signing of a plaque by Garuda general affairs director Achirina and West Nusa Tenggara governor M. Zainul Majdi after the 51th anniversary of the province at Merdeka Square, Bima regency, Thursday.

Achirina said the assistance was given under a Corporate Social Responbility (CSR) program of Garuda.

"The turtle breeding centre built since April 2009, was completed today, and inaugurated tomorrow," he said.

Not only that, but on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of West Nusa Tenggara province, Garuda also handed over assistance under the Environmental Development Partnership Program worth Rp287.5 million, and a partnership fund for small and medium scale business enterprises worth Rp287.5 million.

"The Garyda CSR program realized under the PKBL (partnership and environmental development) program is being implemented in all the provinces in Indonesia," he said.

Garuda has already disbursed a partnership fund of Rp565 billion, and an environmental development fund of Rp267 billion.

He also pointed out that the implementation of the PKBL program is also being monitored and supervised by Garuda.

With regard to the prospects of Bima, especially the airport of Ampenan as one of Garuda`s destinations, Achirina said Bima, Ampenan in particular, is one of Garuda`s markets.

Garuda with its destination Ampenan, Bima, flies four times a day, namely Ampenan-Denpasar flight once a day, Ampenan-Jakarta flight three times a day, and Ampenan-Jakarta-Kuala Lumpur flight once a day.

"And the latest the Ampenan-Denpasar flight since November 1, 2009," Achirina said.
