PKB: INQUIRY COMMITTEE MUST ACT PROPORTIONALLY
Semarang, Dec 18 (ANTARA) - The associate chairman of the executive board of the Nation Awakening Party (PKB), Abdul Kadir Karding, called on the House Century Bank Inquiry Committee to be proportional in handling the case.
"The dynamic developing in the committee tends to be not proportional," he said here on Friday.
He said the committee was formed to become a legal umbrella for the investigation of alleged violations in the bailout of Century Bank and therefore it could not just jump into judging those not yet declared guilty.
The committee, he said, seemed to plan to send a request for Vice President Boediono and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani to resign, which, he added, would be counterproductive to government stability.
He said it seemed the committee was impatient in following the process and if the request was really sent out it would be too hasty.
"The ones concerned (Boediono and Sri Mulyani) have not even been questioned so how they could be asked to resign," he said.
Kardin who is also the chairman of House Commission VIII said the committee had to be proportional because it did not belong to a certain group or certain individuals and must also consider the impact of the step it would take on government stability.
Apart from that, he said, the committee also has to respect the principle of presumption of innocence in dealing with the case and would ask for full information and clarifications from those linked to the case before taking further steps.
He said he hoped the committee would not act hastily and must use a clear mind before making the decision.
He said he supported and called on all parties to support the committee in its effort to settle the case thoroughly.
"The committee has worked well by asking for clarifications and information from those linked to the case and assuring that they would not flee from the process," he said.***1***
