N. Korea confirms Obama sent letter to Kim Jong-il

SEOUL, Dec. 18 (Yonhap) -- North Korea's state media confirmed Friday that U.S.
President Barack Obama had sent a personal letter to the communist nation's
leader, Kim Jong-il, through his special envoy.
Kim received the letter from Kang Sok-ju, the North's first vice foreign
minister, after it was brought there by Stephen Bosworth, U.S. special
representative for North Korean policy, according to the Korean Central News
Agency (KCNA). Bosworth traveled to Pyongyang early this month in a bid to coax
the North back to the six-way nuclear talks.
"Leader Kim Jong-il received a personal letter from Barack Obama, president of
the United States of America," the KCNA said in its English-version report,
without revealing the letter's contents.
