LDII MEMBERS IN SUMENEP PLANT 1,500 TREES

Sumenep, E Java, Dec 19 (ANTARA) - Indonesian Islamic Propagation Institute or LDII members in Sumenep district, Madura Island, East Java on Saturday, planted 1,500 tree seedlings as part of the national greening movement, their leader said.

The tree seedlings planting activity took place in Cemmanis Hamlet, Langsar village, Saronggi sub-district, Sumenep district, chairman of LDII Regional Leadership Council (DPD) Sumenep, Musaheri said, adding that the Reforestation movement is one of LDII work programs nationwide in 2009.

"This is the realization of the Regreening Movement carried out by LDII Sumenep chapter," he said.

He said further that the government simultaneously conducted the Regreening and the Natural Conservation Week (PPKA), the Indonesia Tree Planting Day (HMPI), and the National Planting Month (BMN) in the year 2009.

"We immediately communicate with the Forestry and Plantations affairs office as the relevant agencies in Sumenep district government to work together. Alhamdulillah (thanks God), the Estate Crops supported our work program," he added.

Meanwhile, head of the Sumenep Forestry and Estate Crops division, Ismail expressed appreciation to the LDII members who had contributed to the success of the government regreening program this year.

In addition, Musaheri said the types of trees planted by LDII members in Sumenep, including teak and mahogany.
