GOVT PROJECTS COMPLETION OF NAP IN MARCH 2010
Jakarta, Dec 20 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has projected a 26 percent emission reduction under the National Action Plan (NAP) by March 2010, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Rajasa said in Jakarta Sunday.
"With regard to the COP-15 (United Nations Forum for Climate Change Conference/UNFCCC), we are preparing an Indonesian Action Plan to reduce 26 percent of emissions by March 2010," he said.
According to Hatta in a short briefing by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono after arriving from the climate change conference, the NAP will be determined following an MRV (Measurement, Reporting and Verification).
"MRV is important, the President said before other people conduct an MRV on us, we do it ourselves," he said.
Therefore, the government must begin to form a firm national system to evaluate every NAP`s agenda and activities in securing the 26 percent emission reduction target in 2020, he said.
Hatta emphasized that the carbon emission reduction RAN must be submitted to the provincial administration.
He also said that on the two decisions of the UNFCCC in Copenhagen, 7-18 December 2009, on the working plans, including Bali talks (UNFCCC 2007) and the `Copenhagen Accord`, which mentioned the contribution from countries to the carbon emission reduction," he said.
In the 30 minutes briefing after arriving from several European countries at Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport in Jakarta, President Yudhoyono mentioned the steps to be taken after his trip as the result of his meetings with a number of European leaders.
He emphasized the results of this meetings with the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, French President Nicolas Sarcozy, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Earlier, during the president`s transit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, he said that Indonesia welcomed the Copenhagen Accord to be a part of the conference on climate change and consider it as a positive outcome.
The president also stated that the Copenhagen Accord will be adopted within the framework of the national development so that Indonesia has a program that is consistent with climate change efforts.
"Since Indonesia took part in the formulation, we will update our national action plan synchronizing what we already have done," the President said.
