'Wen's talks with Singh, others led to positive COP outcome'

Beijing, Dec 20 (PTI) China, the world's biggest emitter
of greenhouse gases, has said its Premier Wen Jiabao adopted a
"flexible" attitude on key issues at the Copenhagen climate
talks and played a "pivotal" role in ensuring a "positive"
outcome by coordinating with leaders like Indian Prime
Minister Manmohan Singh.

The UN's Conference of Parties (COP) on climate change
was an important opportunity to boost international
cooperation in combating global warming, Chinese Foreign
Minister Yang Jiechi said.
Under the joint efforts of all parties, the conference
yielded "significant and positive" outcome in three aspects,
Yang, who accompanied Wen to the climate conference, said.
First, it firmly upheld the principle of "common but
differentiated responsibilities" set by the UN Framework
Convention on Climate Change and Kyoto Protocol. Second, it
made a solid step forward in promoting developed countries'
binding emissions cuts and developing countries' voluntary
mitigation actions, he said.
Third, it produced important consensus on key issues of
long-term global emissions cut targets, funding and technology
support to developing countries and transparency, Yang said.
He noted that Wen had a sincere and in-depth exchange of
views on key areas of the climate change talks with a number
of world leaders like Prime Minister Singh, which enhanced
mutual understanding and paved the way for positive outcome of
the summit. (More) PTI AKJ
