RUPIAH WEAKENS AGAINST US DOLLAR

Jakarta, Dec. 21 (ANTARA) - The rupiah weakened against the US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market here on Monday morning as investors released the local currency.

The Indonesian currency traded Rp9,495-Rp9,505 per US dollar, down 25 points from Rp9,470-Rp9,480 at the market's close over last weekend.

Investors were still worried over the Bank Century bailout case which might affect the national economic growth, according to Farial Anwar, Currency Management Board director.

He predicted that the rupiah would continue to weaken to the level of Rp9,500 per US dollar in the afternoon trading.
