YEMEN ACHIEVED POSITIVE STEPS IN CHILD PROTECTION, SAYS PM



SANA'A, Dec. 21 (Saba) - Yemen has achieved positive steps in domain
of child protection and care, Prime Minister Ali Mujawar said on
Monday.

In his speech to the workshop on following up recommendations of
International Committee of Child Rights, Mujawar said that childhood
in Yemen witnessed during few years ago notable progress in field
of child protection and care.

The governorate reviewed laws related to children and prepared draft
for laws which fit with principles of Islam and international
agreements, he said.

The prime minister affirmed commitments of Yemen to offer safe
environment for children.

He gave orders to the ministry of interior to arrest any one
involves in crimes of child trafficking and abuse.

In his speech - delivered by minister of education, the prime
minister also urged the participants to come out with positive
results and plans to follow up recommendations of the international
committee, saying that outcomes of the workshop would receive
support of the government and relevant bodies.

For her part, the UNICEF representative to Yemen highlighted efforts
of Yemen on raise awareness about rights of children, pointing out
to ratification of Yemen for all UN agreements related to rights of
children and women. She affirmed the continuing support for the
UNICEF for helping Yemen to fulfill its commitments toward rights of
children and women.
