Pak agency arrests five Indian fishermen from Arabian sea

Ahmedabad, Dec 21 (PTI) Five Indian fishermen have been
arrested and their boat seized by the Pakistan Marine Security
Agency (PMSA), from the International Maritime Border (IMB) in
the Arabian sea on the west coast of Kutch district, National
Fishworker's Forum (NFF) said Monday.

"The PMSA has arrested five Indian fishermen and seized
their boat yesterday from the Jakhau region near the IMB where
they were on a fishing expedition," NFF secretary for the
western state of Gujarat, Manish Lodhari said.
He said he got the message from his counterparts in
Karachi as the fishermen had been taken there for prosecution.
According to NFF president Hiralal Shiyal, 628 fishermen
were languishing in custodies in Pakistan in the last three
years. With five more arrested Sunday the total had reached
633, he added.
Shiyal further said nearly 434 boats had also been seized
by the PMSA.
Early this month, PMSA had arrested 34 Indian fishermen
and seized their seven boats from the same area while they
were on a fishing expedition.
Last month Gujarat government had issued notification to
owners of Indian boats which are in custody of PMSA, canceling
the registration of the boats citing security reasons. PTI PB
