N. Korea, China jointly publish new dictionary

BEIJING, Dec. 24 (Yonhap) -- North Korea and China have published a new
Chinese-Korean dictionary in the latest project marking the 60th anniversary of
their diplomatic relationship, a diplomatic source here said Thursday.
Based on its first edition published in 1984, the Large Chinese-Korean Dictionary
has added some 60,000 new words that derived from China's economic reform and
enhanced convenience for readers looking for Chinese characters.
Experts and scholars in state publishers from both countries collaborated for
three years for the revision of the dictionary that now compiles 200,000
vocabulary.
The two countries held a ceremony in Beijing on Dec. 2 to celebrate the publication.
In July, North Korea published the Large Dictionary of Chinese Characters
including vocabulary used in hundreds of official and Buddhist documents
published at home and abroad over the past centuries.
North Korea and China established diplomatic ties in 1949, and China fought on
North Korea's side during the 1950-53 Korean War.
