S. Korea to build U.N. center for sustainable development policy promotion

INCHEON, Dec. 24 (Yonhap) -- A U.N. office dedicated to promoting South Korea's
green growth policy across the Asia Pacific region will be established inside
Incheon's Songdo International City in the first half of next year, city
officials said Thursday.
Incheon mayor Ahn Sang-Soo, Minister of Environment Lee Maan-ee and President of
Yonsei University Kim Han-joong signed a memorandum of understanding at Incheon
City Hall after agreeing to establish the so-called "U.N. Project Office for
Sustainable Development in Asia and Pacific" inside Yonsei University's Songdo
Campus.
The U.N. Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) positively appraised
South Korea's efforts to go ahead with its sustainable development policy in 2007
and proposed the idea that a U.N. office designed to spread Korea's green policy
to the whole world be established in Incheon's Songdo ciy.
The center, where six U.N. officials will be working, is expected to promote
Korea's green growth and sustainable development policy in the Asia and Pacific
region and later to the whole world.
