Yang Yong-eun played golf with Bush: source
SEOUL, Dec. 24 (Yonhap) -- South Korean golfer Yang Yong-eun, who gained
international fame with his epic victory over Tiger Woods in the PGA Championship
in August, played golf with former U.S. President George W. Bush in Texas on
Wednesday (Korean time), a source in Seoul said Thursday.
The golf outing between Bush and the 37-year-old Yang, the first male golfer from
Asia to win a major PGA title, occurred at a Dallas golf club, said the source,
adding two of Bush's acquaintances and a South Korean conglomerate chairman with
close ties with the former U.S. president were also on hand.
Bush and Yang reportedly promised to play together when they met each other
during Yang's visit to the headquarters of his sponsor, TaylorMade, in August.
Yang, who now lives in Dallas, was quoted as saying at that time, "He (Bush) came
up to me very casually, like a next door neighbor, started talking with me. He
talked about how he actually had a speech two weeks before that occasion where he
went over to Jeju Island, my (South Korea) hometown, and gave a speech."
