Govt relaxes re-entry visa norms for bonafide tourists
New Delhi, Dec 24(PTI) Faced with protests and
complaints over tightening of visa regulations, Indian
government has decided to relax norms on re-entry into India
for bonafide tourists subject to certain conditions.
The relaxation has been made to the guidelines, issued
on November four, under which foreigners holding long-term
multi-entry tourist visas would have to be out of India for
two months before re-entering.
"To facilitate bonafide tourists, it has since been
decided that foreigners holding tourist visas, who after
initial entry into India plan to visit another country and
re-enter India before finally exiting, may be permitted two or
three entries, as the case may be, by the Indian
Missions/Posts," a Indian Foreign Ministry Spokesman said in a
statement.
This will be subject to their submission of a detailed
itinerary and supporting documentation (ticket bookings).
"The Immigration authorities in all immigration
check posts in India have also been authorized to allow
tourists to make two or three entries, as the case may be,
based on production of an itinerary and documentation (ticket
bookings) substantiating the need for tourism related travel,"
he said.
The move to relax the guidelines came after the US and
the UK voiced concerns over the tightening of the norms
resulting in a lot of problems for the travellers. PTI
