NINE FIRMS APPLY FOR MINIMUM WAGE POSTPONEMENT
Malang, Indonesia, Dec 25 (ANTARA) - Nine companies in Malang district, East Java, have applied for a permit to postpone a monthly minimum wage of Rp1,000,000 for their employees.
They applied for the postponement on the ground they could not afford to pay the minimum wage set by the district administration to their workers, Head of the Malang District Manpower and Transmigration Agency Djaka Ritamtama said here on Friday.
"We, along with the postponement team have conducted an accurate and detailed study. And the nine companies deserve to postpone the monthly minimum wage of Rp1,000,005 for 2010," he said.
Four of the nine companies are operating in the plantation sector and two are Marsudi Waluyo hospital and Lawang maternity hospital.
Under the Manpower Law No.13 of 2003 and Regulation of the Manpower Minister No. 132 of 2008, the companies were still obliged to pay the 2009 minimum wage of Rp845,500 per month to their employees, he said.***
