NUMBER OF TRAIN PASSENGERS UP 9 PERCENT
Jakarta, Dec 25 (ANTARA) - The number of Christmas holidaymakers traveling by train from a number of stations in Jakarta to various towns in Java increased by 9 percent compared with that in a year earlier.
Spokesman of state-owned railway company PT KA for Jakarta Sugeng Priyono said that the nine percent increase happened on December 23, 2009 which reached 33,000 passengers.
He said that in the same period last year the number of train passengers from Jakarta reached 30,000. "So, the increase is only about nine percent," he said.
On December 24, 2009 there was no increase because the number of passengers reached only 36,000, which was the same as that a year earlier.
While on Friday, the number of passengers was expected to return to normal, namely the same as that during a ordinary holidays.
"Today, it is expected to return to normal to 30,000 passengers," he said.***
