Hyundai Engineering to sue Indian firm over bridge collapse
SEOUL, Dec. 26 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., South Korea's
biggest builder, said Saturday that it plans to file a damage suit against an
Indian firm over the collapse of a bridge in India.
Dozens of laborers were killd and feared trapped or drowned after a bridge
collapsed in western India on Thursday
Hyundai Engineering and Gammon India have been jointly constructing the bridge
since 2007 over the Chambal river in the state of Rajasthan.
Hyundai Engineering claimed that an upper part of the bridge constructed by
Gammon collapsed first forcing a lower section of the bridge to crumple as well.
"Gammon's faulty construction caused the accident," said an official at Hyundai
Engineering. "We will file a damage suit against Gammon."
Hyundai Engineering holds a 63-percent stake in the US$49.9 million construction
project, with Gammon owning the remaining stake.
