WB approves two new grants to Yemen worth $65 mln
SANA'A,Dec.26(Saba)- The World Bank (WB)'s Executive Directors Council in Washington approved on December 17 to present
new grants of $65 million to finance projects of "access roads in rural areas" and " Bilharzias control", almotamar.net has reported.
Reliable sources at the WB revealed to almotamar.net that the council agreed that
the International Development Association (IDA) presents an additional funding
grant to
the access roads in rural areas project with $40 million and a grant of $25 million
to Bilharzias control project.
The sources made it clear that the access roads in rural areas project aims at
reducing the poor isolation in the rural areas by improving their abilities to
access markets
and services.
The total cost of the project is $ 50 million in which Yemeni government
contributes with $ 10 million.
The Bilharzias control project aims at reducing the spread of the disease among the
children who are under school-age in the rural areas, where such diseases are
endemic,
by 2015, the sources indicated.
The project's total cost is $28.8 million, in which the government contributes with
$ 2.14 million, World Health Organization (WHO) with $1.46 million, and Bilharzias
control
initiative with $ 20,000.
