S. Korea eyes nuclear plant deal from Turkey: officials

SEOUL, Dec. 28 (Yonhap) -- South Korea is planning to bid for a major Turkish
nuclear power plant construction project following its landmark nuclear
technology export deal signed with the United Arab Emirates, officials at Seoul's
foreign ministry said Monday.

The Turkish government is reportedly pushing to build four nuclear plants, each
costing some $5 billion, along the coast of the Black Sea and the bids are
expected to be called in the first half of next year.
"South Korea's competitiveness in the field of nuclear power is becoming highly
recognized in the Middle East," a ministry official said, asking to remain
anonymous.
South Korea was Sunday awarded a nuclear power plant project in the UAE,
estimated to be worth some US$40 billion, becoming just the sixth nation in the
world to export nuclear power plants.
