MAGNITUDE-5.8 EARTHQUAKE HITS PAPUA

Jakarta, Dec. 28 (ANTARA) - An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale hit Papua Province at 8.19 pm local time on Sunday, according to the national meteorological, climatology and geophysics office.

The quake`s epicenter was located 3.04 degrees southern latitude and and 139.83 degrees eastern longitude, around 113 km southwest of Jayapura, at a depth of 15 km below sea level.

Earlier, a 5-magnitude temblor jolted Nabire, Papua, at III-IV MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity). The quacke`s epicenter was located 3.61 degrees southern latitude and 135.60 degrees eastern longitude.
