The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) swung
into action by disbanding its Grounds and Pitches Committee,
headed by Daljit Singh.
Apart from Daljit, other members of the panel are Dhiraj
Parsana (west), PR Viswanathan (south), Rajiv Gokhale(central)
and Rahul Das (east).
The Kotla had drawn much flak for its slow and low nature
in recent times with most of the Champions League matches
being low-scoring affairs and the last ODI, between India and
Australia on October 31, was also a low-scoring contest.
Ironically, it was only to address this problem that the
Delhi and District Cricket Associated (DDCA) headed by senior
BJP leader Arun Jaitley decided to relay the pitch.
An apologetic DDCA on Sunday said it would take all
possible steps to ensure that such an incident did not happen
again.
"We regret the inconvenience caused to all spectators and
others. We offer our apologies to them. We have decided that
all gate tickets will be refunded," Jaitley said.
"We have taken the matter very seriously. Though it is a
technical matter as pitches come into the supervision of
BCCI's technical committee, we will look into every aspect of
the issue so that it is not repeated again," he said.
Vibhakar Shashtri, the government nominee to DDCA, told
PTI that DDCA would set up a two-member inquiry committee to
look into the episode and he would ensure that the association
did not sweep it under the carpet.
"If the association does not take any step then I will
force them to do that and will reveal my further course of
action only then," Shashtri said. PTI MRM
