Korean gov't publishes guide book for foreign children
SEOUL, Dec. 28 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has published an English-language book
aimed at introducing the country's culture and society to non-Korean speaking
children and teenagers, the culture ministry said Monday.
The book, "Korea for Kids," features A-ra, a Korean elementary school student
living in the traditional Bukchon neighbourhood in Seoul, and her American and
German friends. Seen through the eyes of the three children, the book introduces
traditional Korean villages and cultural assets as well as Korea's development in
IT technology and other areas, according to the culture ministry's press release.
"This is the first information book targeting younger readers out of Korea. We
plan to translate the book in other languages soon," the ministry said.
About 5,000 copies have been published to be distributed at the Korean embassies
overseas, foreign schools and libraries.
