TOKYO, Dec. 28 Kyodo -
Police plan to serve a fresh arrest warrant early in January on former actor
and singer Manabu Oshio on suspicion of failing to act appropriately to save
the life of a woman who died after he gave her the synthetic drug MDMA,
investigative sources said Monday.
Oshio, 31, was indicted Monday on a charge of giving the drug to Kaori Tanaka,
a 30-year-old bar employee, who was found dead after spending time with him at
a Tokyo apartment in August.
According to the indictment by the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office,
Oshio violated the Narcotics Drug Control Law by giving the drug to her at the
apartment in Tokyo's upscale Roppongi Hills complex on Aug. 2.
Oshio is suspected of not calling an ambulance after she lost consciousness. An
acquaintance called an ambulance later.
In November, he was given a suspended prison sentence by the Tokyo District
Court for taking the drug, commonly known as Ecstasy, with Tanaka at the
apartment.
