TWO MORE IRANIANS CARRYING DRUGS NABBED AT JAKARTA'S AIRPORT
Tangerang, Dec 28 (ANTARA) - Customs officers at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta international airport have arrested two Iranians who carried a total of 948 grams of methamphetamine in their intestines.
The head of the airport's customs office, Bahaduri Wijayanta, on Monday identified the two Iranians only by their initials, AH (34) and MRA (25).
They had swallowed 945 grams of methamphetamine in the form of pills before boarding a Qater Airways flight in Tehran. AH had taken 67 pills wieghing 514 grams, and MRA 43 pills weighing 484 grams.
At a rate of Rp2.2 million per gram, the whole lot of the metamphetamine carried by the two Iranians was estimated to have a street value of Rp2.085 billion, Bahaduri said.
The two Iranians would be charged based on Law No35/2009 on narcotics which inludes a clause carrying the death sentence and a fine of Rp10 billion for carriers of more than five grams of metamphetamine.
Earlier, customs officers at Soekarno-Hatta had also nabbed seven Iranians who had tried to bring in 582 grams of metamphetamine contained in capsules they had swallowed.
