PRESIDENT ASKS LARGE COMPANIES TO COOPERATE WITH SMALL INDUSTRIES

Jakarta, Dec 28 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Monday called on large scale companies to team up with micro, small and medium businesses in promoting the national industry.

Small industries played a role in rescuing the economy when the economic crisis engulfed the country, he said at a function to mark the conferment of Upakarti awards at the state palace here.

The president said large companies must be in partnership with small industries particularly in making technological innovations.

"Don`t stop making innovations. Large companies must work closely with micro, small and medium industries so they will become a unit of the national economy," he said.

Regional governments` assistance to entrepreneurs also played a decisive role in promoting the national industry, he said.

The head of state underscored the need for domestic companies to make innovations so that they would be able to weather the global economic crisis and compete with foreign rivals in the era of free trade.

One of the best innovations to address challenges was using information technology in such a way that the national companies could increase their productivity and operate more efficiently, he said.

"Let`s continue to race each other to become innovators so that our creative economy will be getting better," he said.
