POLICE FOIL ATTEMPT TO CIRCULATE RP800 MILLION FAKE BANKNOTES

Cirebon, W Java, Dec 29 (ANTARA) - Police have foiled an attempt to circulate fake banknotes worth Rp800 million and arrested six people suspected of circulating and ordering the fake banknotes.

They were arrested at a coffee stall near Harjamukti bus terminal here last Saturday, chief of the Cirebon city police Adjunct Chief Commissioner Ary Laksmana Widjaya said on Monday.

"The fake banknotes came from Central Java. But I don't know the exact place because the case is being investigated. The fake banknotes were supposed to be circulated in West Java and Jakarta," he said.

If found guilty, those suspected of circulating the fake banknotes could be sentenced to a maximum of 15 years' imprisonment each, Ary said.
