FLOOD INUNDATES TENS OF HOUSES IN PADANG



Padang, West Sumatra, Dec. 28 (ANTARA) - A flood triggered by heavy rains inundated tens of houses in Padang on Tuesday.

A number of houses in the Lubuk Buaya area, Koto Tangah sub district, Padang City, were submerged under water reaching a height of an adult's knee.

At Prak Buruk area, Koto Tangah, some local residents were evacuated due to the flood reaching a height of up to one meter, according to a policeman.
Ade Edwar, head of the West Sumatra provincial disaster mitigation office said that among flood-prone areas in Padang were Simpang Kamlumpang, By-Pass Air Pacah, Dadok Rawang Padang housing complex at Dadok tunggul hitam, Koto Tangah sub district, Maransi at Air Pacah neighborhood, Lubuk Buaya and Ampang areas at Kuranji sub district.

"We have prepared personnel to anticipate worse floods which might hit Padang City," he said.
