METRO CULLS TENS OF BIRD-FLU INFECTED POULTRY

Metro City, Dec. 29 (ANTARA) - The Metro city animal husbandry has culled at least 39 chickens infected with the bird flu virus.

"The culling has to be carried out in order to prevent the bird flu virus from spreading to wider areas," Vita Maharjanti, head of the Metro City Animal Health Post's administration sub unit, said here on Tuesday.

Bird flu virus has infected poultry at West and South Metro sub districts, she said.

"Previously, hundreds of chickens were found dead in those areas," she said.

Over the past few weeks, Avian Influenza (AI) or bird flu virus has affected four sub districts in Metro.

Some 320 chickens were dead at South Metro sub district and 323 others in West Metro.
