They also took strong exception to Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh's remarks that "regionalism" posed a threat to
the country.
"The prime minister's remarks are not only sad but
also objectionable. We are Indians first and Telangana
citizens next," said Nagam.
The TDP leaders said the Congress high command
"insulted" the ministers from Telangana by not granting them
even an audience when they visited New Delhi to seek
clarification of the statehood issue. "This is an insult to
all the people of Telangana region," Nagam said.
The TDP leaders reiterated their demand that all the
Telangana Congress ministers and Members of Indian Parliament
tender their resignations and press for their acceptance.
Merely staying away from Cabinet meetings would not put any
pressure on the Congress high command, they noted.
Let us create a constitutional crisis and achieve
statehood for Telangana, they exhorted.
The TDP leaders requested students and other Telangana
agitationists not to resort to violence and give a reason for
the government to suppress the agitation.
"Some external forces may try to create violence but
the true agitationists should prevent such forces," Nagam
said. PTI DBV
