Russia asks India to take all steps to protect its citizens

New Delhi, Dec 29 (PTI) Concerned over the "growing
number" of attacks on Russian tourists in India's coastal
state of Goa, the Russian Embassy Tuesday asked the Indian
Government and the state government to take all steps to
protect its citizens here.

"The Embassy of Russia in India expresses serious concern
over the growing number of assaults against Russian tourists
spending their holidays in Goa," it said in a statement here.
It said recently there was yet another case of young
Russian tourists tormented by a local taxi driver and two
other miscreants in Goa that was reported to the police.
"The Russian side has not received any detailed
information from official sources on the results of
investigation of the rape case registered by the Goan Police
in the first week of December," the statement said.
"The Embassy calls upon the Central and Goa governments
to take all necessary steps to ensure safety of Russian
citizens," it said.
Unfortunately, there were several other cases of crimes
against Russian tourists under investigation in Goa, which are
still pending, the statement said.
"We feel that the prevailing law and order situation
damages the prestige of world famous resort and undermines its
image as a popular and safe tourist destination," the embassy
said. PTI SKU
