MAN KILLS WIFE FOR REFUSING TO DRINK POISON

Serang, W Java, Dec 30 (ANTARA) - Unwilling to meet his wife's demand for divorce, a man killed her with an axe after she refused to die together by drinking poison.

Rohani (45) was on his way to pick up his wife , Siah (40), from his son-in-law's house to attend a Serang Religious Court session that was to hear their divorce case.

Before picking up Siah, Rohani who did not want the divorce took with him a bottle of insecticide and tucked an axe under his shirt. He planned to threaten Siah with the insecticide and axe to make her call off her divorce suit.

Siah was not suspicious when her husband arrived because both were planning to attend the court hearing. But to Siah's extreme shock Rohani told her he wanted to die together with her by drinking the poisonous insecticide.

Hearing her husband's intention to commit suicide, Siah immediately tried to grab the bottle of insecticide, but then Rohani pulled out the axe from under his shirt and swung it straight onto her head.

The middle aged women collapsed straight away with blood running down from her head which was almost split into two parts by the axe.

Lamu (25) who was sleeping in the room woke up and ran toward the sound, seeing his mother-in-law lying on the floor covered in blood, Lamu tried to help but Rohani then also attacked Lamu with the axe.

Rohani then took the insecticide himself.

Neighbors who heard the commotion immediately entered the house and brought Siah and Lamu to the local health clinic for emergency treatment, while other residents reported the bloody incident to the Kragilan police precinct.

Keragilan police officers then took the poisoned assault suspect to Serang Public Hospital.

Keragilan Police chief Asep Mauludin said his men were still investigating the bloody incident but they could not yet establish its main cause because Rohani was still in medical care.

"The assault motives remains unclear, and we are yet to investigate it," Mauludin said.
