RI TO HOLD ASIAN CONSTITUTIONAL COURTS CONFAB IN 2010



Jakarta, Dec 30 (ANTARA) - Indonesia will host the Conference of Asian Constitutional Courts in Jakarta in July 2010.

Constitutional Court (MK) President Moh Mahfud MD in a reflection of MK performance in 2009 and 2010 Projections in Jakarta Tuesday said that the 2009 conference in Mongolia has chosen Indonesia as the host of the next conference.

Mahfud said the reason to choose Indonesia as host of the next conference was the good and impressive performance of Indonesia's constitutional court with its many breakthroughs for the world, especially for the countries in Asia.

In next year's conference, he added, the official establishment of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts will be signed.

Therefore, he said, Indonesia will go down in the annals of international history as host of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts
He also said that also has the potential to become representative of the Asian Constitutional Courts Association in the Venice Commission as association under the world constitutional courts association.

In its preparations, the draft document of the formation of the Asian Constitutional Courts Association will be finalized with a projected completion in April 2010 in the 3rd planning meeting of the Asian Constitutional Courts Conference in South Korea.

A number of countries from West Europe, East Europe, and Africa had also expressed support and preparedness to take part in the conference.

Mahfud said the Indonesian Constitutional Court had been playing an active role in various international events and cooperation.

The Indonesian constitutional court has also taken part in many global events like the World Conference on Constitusional Justice and the Asian Constitusional Court Conference.
