RSI: DIVING FACILITIES INADEQUATE

Jakarta, Dec 30 (ANTARA) - Indonesian Swimming Association (PRSI) Secretary General Tonny P Sastramihardja said Indonesia's diving facilities were inadequate and needed improvement and modernization.

"The swimming pool here (Gelora Bung Karno, ed) is also inadequate compared to modern and international scale diving facilities," he said after evaluating the results of the SEA Games in Laos at the PRSI headquarters in Jakarta Monday.

He said that if the performance of Indonesian divers is expected to improve significantly the existing diving infrastructure needed to be improved because Indonesia's rivals in this particular branch of sports had reached much better achievements.

Indonesia's main rivals in Southeast Asia in diving competitions, he said, are Malaysia and Thailand.

"Malaysia is very good. Many of its diving athletes had been trained in China (diving champion, ed.)," he added.

He also said that with infrastructure of Olympic Stadium standard and serious coaches and trainers, Indonesia will have opportunities for maximum results.
