KT to start satellite broadcast service in Philippines
SEOUL, Dec. 30 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's KT Corp., which operates the satellite
Mugunghwa-5, said Wednesday that it has signed a deal with Philippine Multi-Media
System Inc. to start satellite broadcast service in the Southeast Asian country.
Under the deal, KT will rent equipment for satellite broadcasting starting next
year, the company said in a statement. The service marks the first overseas
satellite broadcast service via the South Korean satellite since it was placed
into orbit in August, 2006.
Named after the national flower, the Rose of Sharon, Mugunghwa helps relay
high-definition digital images.
KT, also the country's dominant fixed-line operator and second-largest mobile
carrier, added that it will continue to expand its satellite broadcast service
overseas.
