Watchdog clears flash memory makers of price-rigging charges
SEOUL, Dec. 30 (Yonhap)-- South Korea's antitrust watchdog said Wednesday that it
has found no evidence that the world's major flash memory manufacturers engaged
in price fixing, ending a two-year probe into allegations over industry-wide
business malpractice.
The Fair Trade Commission launched the investigation in January 2007 after
charges emerged that four flash memory makers, including Samsung Electronics Co.,
Hynix Semiconductor Inc. and Toshiba, fixed the prices of their products mostly
used in mobile devices.
"We have found no evidence that those companies colluded in fixing prices in
domestic markets," the FTC said in a statement. "Neither was any evidence found
that alleged business malpractice committed by the companies overseas affected
the domestic market."
