FLOOD DAMAGES EIGHT HOUSES IN BANDUNG
Bandung, West Java, Dec 30 (ANTARA) - Eight houses in the Empang Pojok area, Rancasari subdistrict, Bandung city, were heavily damaged by a flood that inundated the area on Tuesday.
Chief of the area's extended neighborhood association (RW), Yamin, said Tuesday's flood happened after the Cidurian river overflowed its banks. The flood waters reached a height of up to 1.5 meters.
The eight heavily damaged houses, he added, had their walls perforated and their windows or door frames were swept away by the rushing flood waters.
To anticipate another flood coming to the area, Yamin said, the people around the impacted areas in coordination with personnel from the local government had evacuated residents to a multifunction building near the area.
"The vice mayor of Bandung city came and some humanitarian aid was delivered to help us last night," Yamin said.
Chief of Rancasari subdistrict, Medi Mahendra, said his personnel evacuated local residents to a safer place last night.
"We also had medical personnel come to check people's health condition," said Medi.
