MINES AND ENERGY AGENCY DISTRIBUTES 2,333 SOLAR ENERGY BULBS

Kotabaru, Indonesia, Dec 30 (ANTARA) - The Kotabaru Mining and Energy Agency, South Kalimantan, will distribute 2,333 solar energy bulbs in 2010 to people living in the interior who have yet to be covered by state electricity company PT PLN.

Head of Kotabaru Mining and Energy Agency H Akhmad Rivai said here Wednesday it has been proposed that the funding for the procurement of the solar energy bulbs be drawn from the State Budget and Regional Administration Budget.

"The money from the State Budget would be used for the procurement of 2,000 solar energy bulbs, and from the Kotabaru regional budget for 333 bulbs, which, if approved, will be distributed next year," he said.

He said that under the 2009 regional budget, the Kotabaru mining and energy agency has distributed 1,065 solar energy bulbs, 1,000 of which had been distributed to the communities living in continental Kalimantan and small islands in the region, he said.

The other 50-watt bulbs, Rivai said, had been distributed to the Dayak people at the foot of Meratus mountain and surroundings.

In the meantime the 80-watt 65 bulbs had been distributed to public facilities and institutions like mosques, village halls, public meeting halls, and other public facilities.

"Most of the public facilities which had received the bulbs are in the transmigration settlements," he said.

He also said that many other people in Kotabaru living at the foot of Meratus mountain have yet to receive the bulbs, and the government therefore needs to allocate more of the solar energy bulbs.

"We have to ask the central government and the South Kalimantan provincial administration for the bulbs," he said.***
