GUS DUR TO BE BURIED IN JOMBANG, EAST JAVA

Jakarta, Dec 30 (ANTARA) - Former president Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur, who passed away at Cipto Mangungkusumo Hospital here on Wednesday, will be buried in Jombang, East Java province, on Thursday.

"Tonight Gus Dur`s body is laid in state in Ciganjur, South Jakarta, and will be flown to Jombang on Thursday morning for burial,"

Siane Indriani, one of Gus Dur`s family members said here Wednesday night.

Indriani, however, could not give more details about the burial process on Thursday.

Gus Dur, the fourth Indonesian president died at the age of 69 after suffering from illness in the hospital at 18.40 local time on Wednesday, his personal secretary, Sulaeman said.

Ministers and public figures, who visited Gus Dur at the hospital were among others Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, State Minister for Women`s Empowerment Linda A. Gumelar, Nahdlatul Ulama or NU leader Hasyim Muzadi.

Other figures who visited the former president were former transportation minister Agum Gumelar, Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo, former state minister for disadvantaged regions Lukman Eddy, including a noted preacher, Zainuddin MZ.

Abdurrahman Wahid served as Indonesia`s fourth president from October 20, 1999 until July 24, 2001. The first son of six children was born in the Denanyar village, Jombang, East Java on August 4, 1940.

Wahid`s father was founder of NU, KH Wahid Hasyim and his mother Hj Sholehah, the daughter of the founder of Denanyar Islamic Boarding School, Jombang, KH Bisri Syamsuri.

Gus Dur is survived by his wife, Sinta Nuriyah, and four daughters - Alissa Qotrunnada Munawaroh, Zannuba Arifah Chafsoh (Yenni), annita Hayatunnufus, and Inayah Wulandari.***
