PRESIDENT PAYS LAST RESPECTS TO GUS DUR
Jakarta, Dec 30 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Wednesday night paid his last respects to former president Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur who died of complications at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital earlier in the day.
The president, accompanied by his wife, Ani Yudhoyono, shook hands with Shinta Nuriah, Gus Dur`s wife, to express his deep condolences on the demise of the country`s fourth president.
Also paying their last respects to Gus Dur were former president BJ Habibie, former vice president Try Sutrisno, and Chairman of the People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Taufiq Kiemas.
Gus Dur died after suffering from illness at the hospital at 18.40 local time on Wednesday. He was 69.
Born on August 4, 1940, in Jombang, East Java, Gus Dur is survived by his wife and four daughters.
Gus Dur served as Indonesia`s fourth president from October 20, 1999 to July 24, 2001.***
