PGN SUPPLIES GAS TO POWER PLANTS IN SUMATRA
Jakarta, Dec 30 (ANTARA) - State gas distributor PT PGN will supply natural gas to state power company PT PLN`s power plants in North Sumatra and power plant in Talang Duku in South Sumatra in need of 150 MMBTU (Million Metric British Thermal Units) of gas.
The plan was laid down in a natural gas sales purchase Memorandum of Understanding for power plants in North Sumatra, and a natural gas sales and purchase agreement for the power plant in Talang Duku in South Sumatra with PT PLN signed at the office of the state minister for state enterprises in Jakarta Wednesday.
The accords were signed by president director of PGN Hendi Prio Santoso and PLN president director Dahlan Iskan in the presence of minister of energy and mineral resources Darwin Zahedy Saleh and minister for state enterprises Mustafa Abubakar.
Under the MoU, PGN agreed to channel natural gas from the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal which will be built in Belawan for the needs of the electric power centers in North Sumatra.
PGN will provide gas from the LNG terminal in Belawan to PLN straight to the PLN`s delivery point.
PGN also agreed to provide natural gas for PLN to meet the needs of the electric power center in Talang Duku, South Sumatra to the extent of 8 BBTUD (billion British thermal units per day) for ten years. PGN will channel natural gas from the South Sumatra-West Java (SSWJ) transmission line.
PLN is operating four gas power plants (PLTGs) in the southern parts of Sumatra, namely PLTGU Belawan/Sicanang with a capacity of 400 MW + 370 MW, PLTU Belawan/Sicanang (2 x 65 MW), PLTG Paya Pasir 20 MW and PLTG Gelugur 40 MW.
The total electric energy produced by the four power plants reached 1,166 MW, while peak load reached 1,247 MW. To overcome the power crisis facing the area, PLN is building PLTG Belawan with a capacity of 115 MW.***
